The Game Changes

A lot of friends and family ask me about this project. I love their interest, and it really makes me feel good to be able to share what I have learned this far.  So if you are interested in knowing how to make $6 a month (that's my top so far) or have wondered what I was talking about when I rambled on about "niche sites", "keywords" "amazon" and "backlinks", read on!

EDIT: I reconstructed this on 09/28/2011 to better reflect a new focus I am pushing into my sites.  I will continue to update this page.  This game changes daily.

"Embrace the Chaos" - Fraser

Online affiliate marketing is a slow road.

But it's faster than life. A year ago, you will be so glad you started it today.  And once it gets going, it keeps going.

To get started.

Read Pat Flynn's Story at SmartPassiveIncome.com and get inspired

Then, Read Pat Flynn's Niche Site Duel step by step instructions on how he takes a website from nothing to $1,000 a month in less than a year.

Ok, Ready to begin? Let's clarify the big picture.

(Caution. Long Post Ahead. Bookmark for Reference, maybe?)

In the past, we used to try to get a few really, really good keywords.

Such as "cell phone chargers".  And it was a five post article about cell phone chargers.

These tiny websites made money because we could fool Google into thinking that they were great websites.

Our main goals were "easy" keywords.  Instead of writing about "fireplaces" we would write about "fireplaces for your patio".  These overlooked keywords were our goldmines.

Then we would promote those keyword like crazy to make it to # 1 on Google.

Here's the downside.  With this model, you spend hours researching content.  And then you spend hours (and hours and hours...)  working on creating that website and backlinking and promoting that keyword to the #1 spot on Google.

The Keyword Academy has noticed that too many people spend a year or more getting to #1, and then Google will change their algorithm.  Suddenly, you are making nothing.

The Game Has Changed

I am not working on Niches anymore.  The new goal is to cover categories.

So now I might write about "Beauty" or "Windows" or "Tea".  Instead of spending hours poring over tools that measure all of my competitor's pagerank and age  I simply focus on key phrases that are three or more words long. The key here is that each article will have enough "long tail"  traffic.

See you could write a really, really well for one word. Or, you could rank so -- so for a lot of words. Which would be easier for Google to recognize and eliminate from their algorithm? That's easy is one has mediocre content and tons of fabricated links. The one that's more challenging to identify and eliminate?  it's your website, the one with 1000 great phrases that answer questions people need. They find their answers on your website.  your website suddenly becomes a gold mine among millions.

And it is one that is hard to be eliminated from algorithms.

So you need to find a category of website: Hair, Kids, Health, Herbs, Cars, Transmissions, Yard Care...

Each one of you have areas of interest.  If you don't think so, I encourage you to sit down with Pat Flynn's model: Write down 7 things you

So how do you choose a category? If you read Pat Flynn's site up there (If not, scroll back up there and read that bugger) you saw his method of choosing 7 different categories of  7 things he loves, fears or needs.

Grab a paper. Scratch some ideas. What scares you? What excites you?

If you are serious about starting this website, you really need to face the fact that you will probably write over 100 articles on your website. And, we will still do some back linking. So you need a subject that you don't mind immersing yourself in for the next six months.

I will be real honest with you and this post used to be a lot longer. I tried to explain a lot of things that really needed whole blogs to explain slummy just say this I am maintaining this blog because I want to inspire my friends and my family to take a look at what I'm doing and maybe try on their own!

to really make a go of this you will eventually need to spend a little bit of money. It might just be the eight dollars for a domain name and the six dollars a month for web hosting. But, frankly I don't know how I would've made where I am without using the Keyword Academy.

The first month is free, and in that first month you will learn everything you need to be successful in this industry. If you choose to continue on with this mentorship after that first month, great. However, if for some reason I needed to quit the Keyword Academy today I have the knowledge now to continue forward.

I want you guys to have that as well. And, frankly, right now I am too busy to try to give this blog the attention it needs to make a difference in your life that I really want to make.

Go check them out.  The Keyword Academy starts off with a 30 day trial.  It gives you step-by-step instructions on how to research keywords without paying for expensive tools. And it helps you back link without charging you extra, or roping you into, crazy expensive schemes.
